Toby's Birth (Guest Post by Erika)

Carl and I just got back from visiting Bruce, Carrie and Toby. Bruce had been there earlier (6am) to drop off the milk Carrie has pumped. He got there just in time to feed Toby a bottle. When he brought Carrie back over around 11am, Carrie was able to nurse for the first time. Toby did a great job latching on! The only problem was that he was so sleepy! After nursing for 10 minutes, he decided that sleep was more important.

Carl and I were able to watch as the nurse and Carrie put in a catheter. It looked horribly painful, but thankfully didn't seem to bother Toby at all! Because they have been getting a lot of urine out when they cath him, they have started doing it every 4 hours instead of every 6. So far, he has only had a couple of wet diapers on his own. Carrie and Bruce will leave the hospital on what they call a "cath plan" where they learn all about putting in a catheter.

According to the Neurosurgeon, the CT will take place on Monday and the shunt surgery will happen on Tuesday.

I am just amazed how smoothly this whole process has gone and I know it is only because people have been lifting this family up in prayer! Thank you! Hopefully I will have more to share later.
